Phoenix Song by Katie Marzullo

The question of reincarnation is an ambiguous one for many but explored in great depth by LA-based filmmaker, Kate Marzullo. Frustrated by the lack of authentic projects based on the theme of rebirth, 'Phoenix Song' was brought to life (no pun intended). Originally based off a TV series still in the early development stages called the 'Phoenix Chronicles', the 'Phoenix Song' introduces the audience to the characters and concept of the television series. A comprehensive look at love transcending time and space- A unique universe where everything comes full circle.

The film follows art student Laura (Kristin Rogers), as she attempts to reconnect again with Dillon (Benjamin David Howard)- A soul she has reincarnated with numerous times over history in a final attempt to clear the karma. However, she's the only one who knows what is occurring. Can she solely release their karmic baggage so they can be free of each other once and for all?

This long-form music video makes you ponder questions such as the concept behind 'love at first sight' and the reasoning behind meeting someone for the first time and feeling as if you've known them for a hundred years. Maybe it's due to more than just casual intuition? What about peeling away the layers of your thoughts and uncovering a mystical story? The main synopsis of the concept is to offer an alternative point of view to those lingering unanswered questions. The concept is open to the audience to interpret in their own way and at the end of the day 'Phoenix Song' holds solace in identifiable truth- the labor of love.

This privately funded project features original music by up and coming artist Joanne Higginbotton who also works for composer, Tyler Bates. The film has already been accepted into 3 film festivals including Indie Fest, the Los Angeles New Wave International Film Festival (premiere), and the Action On Film International Film Festival (August). It is also an early awards favorite by nabbing Award of Merit in the Women Filmmakers category (Indie Fest); Honorable Mention in Short Film category (LA New Wave); Best Costumes (LA New Wave); and also the pilot for 'Phoenix Chronicles' won an Honourable Mention in LA New Wave's screenwriting competition.

Kaitlyn Hunt Arrested for Falling In Love

You CANNOT be prosecuted for falling in love with someone.

Kaitlyn Hunt, 18, was expelled from Sebastian River High School in Sebastian, Fla., this year after she was charged with two felony counts following the discovery of a relationship with a 15-year-old classmate.
18 year old Kaitlyn Hunt
This statement alone has been sensationalised by the unfortunate story of Kaitlyn Hunt. An 18 year old from Florida being prosecuted for 2 felony counts of 'lewd and lascivious battery on a child 12-16 years of age' for the mere fact that she has a girlfriend who is 15 years old.

Remarkably, it's her girlfriends parents who are pressing charges, even though their daughter has stated that it is a consensual relationship. They began dating when Kaitlyn was 17 and in a bitter move, her girlfriends parents waited until she was 18 before pressing charges.

Kaitlyn's mother 'Kelley Hunt-Smith' wrote on their Facebook support page that- 'These people never came to us as parents, never tried to speak to us and tell us they had a problem with the girls dating. They were out to destroy my daughter. They feel like my daughter made their daughter gay.' A haunting statement that slaps us back into reality into the viewpoint of same-sex relationships held by many.

Hunt-Smith went on to say that police arrived at their family home on February 16th and arrested Kaitlyn. She has also been expelled from school after her girlfriends parents successfully petitioned to have her removed just weeks before graduating, even though the judge's initial order allowing Kaitlyn to remain in school as long as the two girls didn't have any contact. Even more heartbreaking as Kaitlyn achieved excellent grades and was involved in a whole host of extra-curricular activities alongside being voted the girl with the 'most school spirit'. If convicted, options include a jail sentence or living under house arrest. She will also have to register as a sex offender and live the rest of her life as a convicted felon. It really boggles my mind how parents of a daughter can do that to another parent with a daughter.

As much as this case is sad from a moral point of the view and the same-sex community, it is also infuriating. Time and money are being wasted on a case associated with innocent blameless love, yet there are sex offenders in their millions being able to roam the streets freely. Attention should be directed to more important factors such as incarcerating people who truly deserve it.

Kaitlyn is now truly terrified for her life and is unable to sleep at night due to the fear of the unknown. Thankfully this case has gone public and sparked national and international outrage. Kaitlyn's family have stated 'our family will do everything we can to stop these people from ruining our daughter's promising life. This is unjust and unfair- and we need you help to stop it.

Spotlight on Haim - A Band Of Three Sisters

"I play in a band with my two pretty sisters"- Danielle Haim

I recently came across a Cyril Hahn remix of the song 'Don't Save Me' by a girl band called 'Haim' from California. Many people like myself have probably heard of the band but not forayed into their music and to be honest- there isn't that glaringly obvious initial pull to.

Make no mistakes- they by no means are a manufactured girl band put together by a reality show living for the easy fame and taking up gossip columns so we are basically forced to listen to their music. They are in fact sisters- Este, Danielle and Alana. Gifted musicians, they have grown up performing. This led to their partnership featuring a unique blend of early 90's R'n'B drowned in nu-folk echoes, which saw them support 'Mumford and Son's on tour last year. BBC have gone on to name them 'the sound of 2013'...and frankly I couldn't agree with them more. Listening to their music was like a breathe of fresh air. Their whole aesthetic and aura is one of cool individuality and candid creativity. You can obviously tell they have an enormous input in their work and imagery making them the coolest sisters EVER.

Celebrities Who Made It Big After Rejection

In the grind of making it in the entertainment industry you're showered with rejections. Many people leave the industry in exchange for a more stable career. Harsh critics and casual dismissals are not everyone's forte. In this cut-throat world of someone younger, fresher more beautiful willing to take your place, I think we all need to do a good job of helping each other overcome bitter rejection. I mean come on...with figures such as 1000 people applying for 1 job, the odds of you getting a coveted job is like winning the lottery- And for people who are relentless in the pursuit to get to the top despite brutal rejections, in any industry- their perseverance will inevitably pay off. Just look at the following examples-

Take THAT Simon Cowell!!
Walt Disney-Can you imagine a world without Disney World?  Before his legendary success, his first company went bankrupt and he was fired by a news editor for lacking imagination. Apparently, before sealing financing for Disney World he was turned down 302 times.

Stephenie Meyer-Twilight has made stars out of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart but it may have never happened. The author of the 'Twilight' series, wrote 15 letters to literary agencies. Only one gave her a chance. That one led to eight other publishers auctioning for the rights to publish Twilight. She ended up singing a three book deal worth $750,000

Jennifer Hudson- After bearing the brunt of Simon Cowell's not so nice comments in season 3 of American Idol, Hudson landed the role of Effie White in 'Dreamgirls'. The role resulted in an Oscar win for 'Best Supporting Actress'. She is considered one of the most successful American Idol alum, despite not winning.

Every entertainment
journalists dream job!
Giuliana Rancic- She landed a coveted trial job at E! three years after graduating from college. Whilst interviewing Wilmer Valdarrama for his movie 'Summer Catch' (in which he hooks up with his friends mum) she asked him if he had done something similar in real life. Within minutes of the interview airing, she was fired. However, due to everyone else's positive feedback of her interview, E! swallowed their pride and invited her back after two months. Today, she is one of the entertainment industry's biggest TV personalities by co-hosting E! News and Fashion Police, alongside having her own reality show with her husband called 'Giuliana and Bill'.

Queen of daytime television.
Ellen DeGeneres- Ellen was given her own sitcom show called 'Ellen', which was well- received. However in 1997 at the height of its popularity, Ellen came out as gay. After that, the ratings fell quickly ( it has been speculated that it was due to people's ignorance and close-mindedness over her sexuality) and the show was cancelled. In 2003, she made a comeback with her popular show- 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', which has led to a whole other host of opportunities for this funny woman.

Oprah Winfrey-Growing up in poverty, being raped at 9 and getting pregnant at 13 paved a difficult time for Winfrey. Nonetheless, this only fuelled her drive to become a television news anchor. However at 22 she was fired after being deemed 'unfit for TV' and also due to low ratings. She moved onto morning TV, where she carved out her own niche. Seven years later, she moved to Chicago to begin her own self-titled talk show, which dominated daytime television for 25 years. She is the highest paid media personality in the world.

Exciting Shows To Catch on TLC UK

If you think about it, it's actually quite shocking that TLC UK wasn't with the great British public before. The US version of the channel is an enormous hit and now millions have been invested in the UK launch. An incredible lifestyle and entertainment channel, TLC UK will bring us real life shows of unique lifestyles and activities. It's no wonder Lisa Snowdon keeps reminding us in the launch advertisement that there are people out there whose lives are crazier than ours

Here are a few exciting shows to keep your eyes peeled for-

+Here Comes Honey Boo Boo
Probably the biggest star of the channel! The series follows seven year old pageant sensation Alana Thompson (a.k.a Honey Boo Boo) along with her family in rural Georgia. When she's not competing in pageants, she's 'redneckonizing' with her coupon chasing mum and four-wheeling through mud-pits. I've already seen every episode on-line, but I plan on viewing them again when it comes on television. Alana's pet pig Glitzy is the star on most of TLC UK's branding. I NEED to be the UK ambassador for Here Comes Honey Boo Boo!

+Breaking Amish
I haven't seen this yet but this show has a huge fan base. Five Amish men and women are followed on their journey as they make the difficult decision to stay with the church and embrace their Amish lifestyle or follow their dreams outside their community. The authenticity of this show has been questioned, but nonetheless will make for an interesting viewing!

+Virgin Diaries
An incredible insight into people who are holding out on losing their virginity. From couples saving themselves for their wedding night to anticipating sex in general. A broad range of ages are documented to help the audience gain a further understanding of this sexual self control!

Other programmes on the timetable include Undercover Mums, Ultimate Shopper, Long Island Medium, Brides of Beverly Hills and My Strange Addiction.
