SAGs 2015 Winners List

Finally an awards ceremony that gave some recognition to shows that I love. African American actresses Viola Davis and Uzo Aduba made SAG history as they both scooped up the lead actress titles. The shows they won for were Orange Is The New Black and How To Get Away With Murder- two of my favourites! It's nice to see a form of popular culture that I'm so engrossed in receive the recognition it deserves. Thankyou Refinery29 for the red carpet love- Danielle Brooks

Both colours and neutrals reigned supreme on the red carpet at the SAG Awards 2015 last night. There are always those celebrities who deliver each time such as Emma Stone who isn't afraid to mix elements of androgyny which ends up making her looks even more gorgeous and feminine! I'm also not afraid to champion those who haven't received that much red carpet coverage in the past. Saying that Stephanie Beatriz and Danielle Brooks looked absolutely dynamite! Danielle's figure in particular looks all sorts of fierce. And it was also incredible to see Viola Davis radiant in white as she finally picked up an award for How To Get Away With Murder. Beautiful women! Check out my best dressed below.

I'm not exactly what you call normal- Kendall Jenner

It's easy to see why Kendall Jenner is Vogue's newest obsession. The girl has amazing genes (To be honest, anything that Kris Jenner births is beautiful). But Kendall lucked out in her own way. Long limbs, bamboo beauty and ethereal humbleness- A killer combination to cut it as a working supermodel in an intense dog eat dog industry. Kendall Jenner latest venture, a gorgeous spread in the Dakota Johnson-gracing cover of February's Vogue shot by world renowned Patrick Demarchelier and styled by fashion guru Tabitha Simmons. Check out her shoot below. Must be so satisfying having Anna Wintour on speed dial!

American Idol Won't Be Airing on British Television Anymore

Season 14 judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez & Harry Connick
Jr. Host, Ryan Seacrest.
This year there is no sign of the talent show American Idol being aired on British television. Which to be honest (and a massive shame) doesn't come as much of a surprise. I was livid last year when Channel 5 bought the rights to the show and after giving it a prime time slot of Thursday and Friday evenings for a few weeks, dropped the show completely.

Season 14 of American Idol began in America on January 7th this year and even if a UK network decides to pick it up we'll be weeks behind, which doesn't bode well in terms of reality talent shows. It's also extremely annoying that there seems to be a vague guessing game of what viewers would like to see on television- And whilst I'm the first one to view other forms of entertainment as hierarchical talent, I feel like American Idol has fallen to the side in comparison to heavyweight reality show 'The X-Factor'. I watch the X-Factor, yes I do. It's very tackily British of me- And I say 'tacky' because American Idol doesn't rely on all the gimmicks that X-Factor does. Showbiz journalists aren't in hot pursuit of young contestants for sordid tales of yesterday gone wrong which fills up magazine columns. Judges aren't at war with each other over the 'mentoring' specifics of the shows. Infact the judges on the AI panel (Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr and Keith Urban) without being an actual 'mentor' provide contestants with copious amounts of musically induced logistics that credit their seasoned years in the business. Even I learn some new musical technicalities (being the least musically inclined person ever!). 60% of the singers who come to audition for AI end up singing a song that I've never heard in my life before but end up singing it with such passion, grit and hustle that the idea of the American dream is centre stage. I can vividly remember eleven years ago sitting in my home in Dubai and watching Fantasia Barrino and Diana Degarmo face off in the season three finale and thinking that this was what dreams were made out of. There's just a certain sense of collective coolness and quirkiness that has me unapologetic in my rant against advantageous showing times of this show on British television. Oh and who can dismiss the novelty of Ryan Seacrest?
AMERICAN MUSIC AWARD WINNER- JORDIN SPARKS (SEASON 6 WINNER)
GRAMMY AWARD WINNER- FANTASIA BARRINO (SEASON 3 WINNER)
GRAMMY AWARD WINNER- CARRIE UNDERWOOD (SEASON 4 WINNER)
Let's not forget that American Idol has also produced the likes of Grammy award winning and nominated singers such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia Barrino and Adam Lambert, with Jennifer Hudson scooping up an Oscar. Bias isn't even an excuse as I've mentioned that I watch X-Factor too and being British myself I would hope we'd have a leg up, but the talent is astronomically ahead in comparison to the British talent show. I understand that Simon Cowell who is the mastermind behind The X-Factor started off on American Idol but the authenticity of AI stretches further than his foundations after he left. Fremantle Media should really pick up the UK rights for the show and Simon Fuller should see to this.
GRAMMY AWARD WINNER- KELLY CLARKSON (SEASON 1 WINNER)
GRAMMY NOMINATED- ADAM LAMBER (SEASON 8 FINALIST)
ACADEMY AWARD WINNER- JENNIFER HUDSON (SEASON 3 FINALIST)
My point is that we should be able to see the shows on British television that credit talent and content more than it does ratings.

Empty Casket Jewellery

I can only wear jewellery which resonates with me- And the brand Empty Casket has answered all my prayers. Gorgeously bewitching jewellery in the form of pendants, chokers, rings etc had me ogling over their website for weeks. If I could live in a horror movie (without getting killed off) I feel like Empty Casket would be the brand to style me throughout! I finally ordered a beautiful black pendant which was a nice change from my collection of chokers. From the moment I feasted my eyes upon the gorgeous packaging I was sold. From the quirky monochrome outer packaging to the starry pouch which held the precious necklace- it was all so beautiful! And the necklace in itself was just what I had imagined- And better yet it goes with any outfit!

Best Dressed From Golden Globes 2015

Ahhh the absolute novelty of red carpet fashion come award season never wears off. The weekend's weather at this years Golden Globes invited dark clouds and rain which had backstage teams running around with umbrellas (in LA? Surely not!) This nonetheless paved way for some exquisite red carpet fashion which by all means had some stars looking their glamorous best. A tirade of Hollywood's most A-List and up and coming young talent adorned some of the worlds most well known designers- And the results was truly gorgeous. Giuliana Rancic and Ryan Seacrest once again did a fantastic job getting the celebrities to spill their fashion and beauty secrets on E! Live from Red Carpet. Must say everybody looked their Sunday best! Check out some of my favourite looks from this years Golden Globes.

My Favourite YouTubers Of The Year

2014 has been an excellent year for Youtubers. Where else can you ramble on about the things you are most passionate about and create a community where you can discuss, analyse and truly get involved with others? In a way, it has created a form of creative escapism. Many YouTubers start out by attending unfulfilling jobs by day and then sprucing it up at night in front of their camera. Their rules, their beliefs and their passions. They are technically alone but not after a hard grind of talking to themselves, editing and interacting. Make no mistake being a vlogger is a difficult career choice. I start getting ancy two minutes into making a video, so you can imagine someone trying to film and edit a long video a good couple times a week. There's so much that goes into it, not just the bigger picture but the fine print, the technicalities and the attention to detail. There are many established YouTubers/Vloggers out there, but there's a handful who I've truly enjoyed this year and I think are going to be even bigger in 2015. Their videos genuinely put me in a good mood and have me entertained. Make sure to click on each header for a direct link to their channel.

Dr. Victora Magrath(!) is a purple haired, PHD holder who is just as nice in person as she is on Youtube. I met her extremely briefly about a year and a half ago at a blogging event where I was interning and recognised her from the free-spirited posts she had done about her American road-trip travels that I had stumbled upon a couple days earlier. It was around about that time when she started her channel and I immediately subscribed. She offers unique, quirky and humble posts about fashion, beauty and lifestyle and even posted various vlogs on her second American adventure. Girl after my own heart. It's incredible to see her succeed since and here's hoping her recent move to London works even more magic for her.

Another one who promotes the wonderful world of travel and is by far the ultimate expert. Brooke Saward has been living on the road for about a year plus and managing to make a career out of it. Thousands have come across her travel blog World of Wanderlust which has even birthed a book, 'The World of Wanderlust' story which according to Amazon reviews refuses to fall below five stars. Travelling whilst making money is a crazy far-fetched dream for most but she manages to break it down for us with new city vlogs and 'how to pack' tutorials. She's a lifesaver for resourceful, trustworthy and clever travelling tips and tricks.

I have a huge soft spot for Kaushal who manages to combine a much needed channel for Western and Eastern influences to mix. Her Kylie Jenner video follows me around everywhere on YouTube unsurprisingly enough and she manages to emulate the make-up looks of iconic Bollywood actresses arguably well. She's warm and charismatic and obviously passionate about the beauty industry which draws me in.

I came across this beauty only recently after searching for Nikki Lipstick hauls. Morgan, who works as a model and hairstylist satisfies the inner rebel in me and her choice of where to shop resonates with me the most. Her personal style consists of tattoos, piercings and body modification which shows a strong sense of confidence and character. Oh boy do I want more of an insight into her life or what?!

Lilly Singh is probably the most well known Youtuber on this list who is the most stable in her video success. By no means, a Canadian celebrity who champions comedies in her videos, giving me a break from fashion & beauty. And one important thing- she is SO hilarious! An old sketch of where she depicted the realities of Asian parents had me in stitches. Being raised Pakistani everything she said was true and shone warm light on the sometimes scary situations Asian parents can put you in! Her collaborations are on-point and her sense of humour is achingly on the pulse. Here's to continued success Superwoman!

Up at the O2- Climbing to the Top!

"The best way out is always through"- Robert Frost

The 'New Year New Me' motto gets old really fast- But I have to admit that there's a certain something special about starting it off on the right foot - And especially at the top. The 02 gave us that opportunity as they run climbs over the top of their iconic building. Me and my little brother decided to book in an original climb (they have both sunset and twilight expeditions as well) on New Year Day and boy were we in for a treat! We started off with a small presentation with a group of like minded people about what the following hour would entail. Our guide Ross was informative and made the experience much more enjoyable. We then went through to the changing rooms where the element of being an adventurous explorer kicked in. We were suited and booted in climb suits, harness', latches and Ecco walking shoes. Before our climb, we took a few pictures at the base and then we set off. I have to admit I was slightly worried about not being fit enough to climb it, but it was actually pretty easy. There was a slight burn heading upwards but was completely ignored the further we went up. It was also extremely windy which actually made the whole experience incredibly fun. I don't think I could ever go bungee- jumping but I'm glad that I don't have an intense fear of heights. Getting at the top was so worth it- there was a beautiful view of Greenwich, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Canary Wharf. After a little while of taking selfies at the top we headed back down. I'm so glad I did it and you can see from the following pictures that It was an incredible experience. If you would like to give it a go click here.

The Best Television Shows To Expect From 2015

The first month of January is arguably the best in terms of television shows making a return. However the rest of the months in this upcoming year doesn't disappoint with exciting viewing material. Television is a form of escapism that I love indulging in. Snuggling up in bed with the latest episode of your favourite show is the same feeling as getting completely lost in the movie of the year at the cinema. In recent years, the entertainment industry has been given a bad rap due to reality shows, notorious figures in the media and societal controversies. But it's important to rewind and sink back into the comfort of knowing that television has been built on decades worth of class, sincerity and the ability of sheer connection with an audience. That's no different for me. Take a look at the few shows amongst many others that I will be championing this year!

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
Returning June 2015
Probably Netflix's biggest win- OITNB has us hooked on the latest shenanigans of Piper Chapman and her fellow inmates! Cue girl fights, lesbians & bad ideas all around.

BATES MOTEL
Returning March 2015
A contemporary prequel to Alfred Hithcock's Psycho, which explores the delicate and twisted relationship between son and mother. Hair-raisingly eerie and chilling. Acting at its finest. Vera Farmiga is Queen.

THE MINDY PROJECT
Currently in its third season
I just started watching it recently after purchasing Mindy Kaling's book. I'm still on the first season but I find myself continually chuckling- especially at Morgan who is the true comedic genius of this show. His timing is impeccable. I find myself loading the next episode after finishing one late into the night.

GIRLS
Returning January 11th 2015
A group of twenty-somethings trying to 'find themselves' in this dog eat dog world. Hell yes. Arrogantly realistic and cringe inducing episodes have you championing Lena Dunham. Preach.

CRIMINAL MINDS
Return January 14th 2015
My ultimate show- Criminal Minds will hands down be my favourite show ever. I've been there since 2005, catching serial killers with the gang and melting in their endearing personal relationships. The creative genius behind this show deserves a round of applause and the writers deserve accolades of their own. As described by the cast, 'a quietly confident show that doesn't need the hoopla of the press'- makes me love this show even more! Jennifer Love Hewitt has joined the team this season and she fits in like a glove.

FAKING IT
Approximate release date not unveiled yet
A cute MTV show which in the light of ignorant homophobia is a stress reliever. Cleverly executed and champions young and upcoming talent.

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER
Returning January 29th 2015
Slick, sexy and dangerous. A show which has earned Viola Davis 'Best Actress' nominations in the first season is anything but to be ignored. There are scenes in this show in which Viola gives us a masterclass in acting. Raising hair, chills and complete mind-fucks is what this women delivers with pure class.

HANNIBAL
Returning Spring 2015
Only a few episodes in, this is one of the shows that I'm not entirely sure of. Based of Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins' Silence Of The Lamb and Thomas Harris' Red Dragon, this features an FBI special investigator and a forensic psychiatrist who work together to solve crimes. It has a bit of a slow start, but my brother seems keen on it, so I'll give it a chance. It is critically acclaimed after all.

WHAT SHOWS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS YEAR?
