'It's an odd conversation. It's like talking about your fantasy wedding but not having a wedding.'- Brie Larson
So the event of the year is nearly upon us! The 88th annual Academy Awards will bring together the industry's elite. In terms of the 'diversity row'- I get it, even more so perhaps. However I think, especially in this particular niche people think of diversity as only black actors, but as a South Asian women I feely incredibly underrated. BUT, I don't think it's fair to take it out on the extraordinary talent which has been nominated this year. I mean have you seen Brie Larson in Room?! And how many actors out there could pull of Eddie Redmayne's role in The Danish Girl?
Attempting to boycott the awards is essentially a slap in the face of the American Dream and those actors who are up there in the clouds and not attending or showing their support to this years nominees are childish, ungrateful and utilizing their position of hierarchy in an unjust way. Hopefully one day they will get nominated, but who would want to return the favour and come and support them? Nonetheless, this post is about the nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress. Since the nominations were announced they've been asked multiple times about how they feel- low and behold, I've gathered together some of their final thoughts.
May the best man of woman win!
